St. John’s Wort Tincture Uses

Tinctures are recommended to be taken over a period of 4-6 weeks, three times per day. Adults should take 20 – 30 drops 3 times a day. It is needed a minimum of 2 weeks to feel the first results. The drops have a strong taste so can be diluted in water, juice, tea, or other.

For persons who want to avoid alcohol like children elder people and others there is a way:

  1. Remove the 200 ml boiled water from the heat and leave to cool to 80°C.
  2. Add the tincture (drops) to the water
  3. Leave it for 20 minutes again and allow alcohol to evaporate.
  4. Pour into a cup and drink it.

Pregnet and nursing mothers should avoid using it especially first three months of pregnesy.

This is a very easy way to make homemade St. John’s Wort tincture. The only thing is that you will need to wait 40 days. After that period you will get a tincture with a beautiful red color.

I will use dried herbs but you can use fresh one too. Also, the alcohol on the video is traditional alcohol from my country but you feel free to use vodka or other 40-50% alcohol.

Instructions
  1. Put the herbs in a clean glass jar.
  2. Pour them with the alcohol to the level of the herbs.
  3. Close the jar and place it in a place not to be exposed directly to sunlight.
  4. Leave it for about 40 days with occasional shaking.
  5. After that period, drain through cloth.
  6. Store in a glass jar or bottle in a cold and dark place.
Recipe Notes

The ratio between herbs and alcohol should be as in the video. That is, the level of alcohol should be up to the level of herbs, maybe a bit higher.
